To Make a Hummingbird LeRoy starts with a clear glass rod. Next he wraps "Northstar" Cobalt Blue rod around it. Around this he then uses a lighter colored stringer (shown in picture). He then "feathers" the stringer into the blue.
As the glass is heated LeRoy begins the shaping of the glass that will eventually become the bird. A clear glass holding rod is fused to the figure and then the glass is pulled into shape. A beak, eyes and wings are then added.
Finally the hummingbird is finished... LeRoy pinches to make an indention that becomes the "tail feathers". He has also added a hole through the bird so that it can be worn as a necklace. The final step is to place the completed figure into an oven so that the glass can harden properly.
